Case Study
Lighting Installation & Repair for Data Centre Supplier

Department
Electrical Installations
Project Value
£70,000
Scope of works
Install LED lights, PIRs and relevant cabling.
About
We worked with an established data centre supplier who are developing a unique capability to acquire, manage, and scale data centre campuses. They are building a unique ecosystem of open solutions that power customer growth through exceptional service on a foundation of unrivalled data centre expertise.
The customer requirement on this installation was to repair the existing lighting infrastructure from water damage and make a significant energy saving to the chiller deck lighting.
Challenges
We faced the challenge of replacing lighting with a suitable LED replacement, as each fitting was to have a PIR sensor so only lighting within the occupied areas would trigger. Thermal PIRs were offered by Global Installation Cable over microwave sensors, which are prone to picking up false movement around chillers and therefore switch on without a requirement, wasting valuable electricity.
During works
Deliveries were monitored due to the changes in materials required (moving from Microwave to Thermal PIRs). This caused delayed lead times but did not impact the completion date. Ongoing updates were made to the project plan and to the customer to fall in line with material delivery. Additional labour was not required to bring the installation date in on time.
Completion
The project was completed on time and monitored by Global Installation Cable and the customer to ensure the savings were being made as per our projected comparisons.
