About
The world’s most heavily regulated organizations have trusted Global Installation Cable with their data centres since the 1980s.
We had to install a new POD of racks within their new data hall for their latest customer. The specifications of the POD included new racks, cold aisle containment, an overhead busbar system and an external security cage to sub divide the DC.
Challenges
The main challenge during this project was working within a live data hall whilst maintaining the high standard of cleanliness for existing customers.
Solutions
A Starline busbar system was to be used as it allowed additional future tap-offs to be installed without the isolation of the busbar.
During works
The commencement of the 2020 pandemic meant we had to reassess these works along with our practices on site. This meant bringing in COVID-19 risk assessments, additional hygiene and PPE, socially distancing workers, staggering breaks and ensuring no mixing of teams to eliminate the possibility of cross contamination.
Completion
The project was delivered on time, within customer time frames and without the need for any extras or additions to the initial quote. All testing was carried out on-site before handover, with test results supplied to the customer contact in the US via email, and copies stored by Global Installation Cable for 5 years from the date of completion. A QA of the environment was completed by the customer’s on-site contact (DCS team leader), the Global Installation Cable PM and the Global Installation Cable site supervisor.
